Sugar rush!

Not talking about a Pop-Tart binge, but something recklessly high-speed - the new Wachowski production.

Speed Racer is visually amazing - such innovation, such colour, such a cinematic breakthrough in many ways. Candy colours and surreal views rush through the flick second by second and anyone prone to enjoy all things visual (who, me?) can’t but sit and relax.

Sure, although the plot (faithful to the original comic) works and Hirsch & Sarandon really are incapable of failing, we again encounter the stiff lines aux monsieurs Matrix. The dialogue is as cliché as ever with lengthy touchy-feely dialogues. Moreover, sirs Whack and Boom don’t seem to have decided on a target group for all the sweet neon madness as they cram the story with both confusing conspiracies and over-acting like in a Disney film - making it sag for all age groups.

But though the allure of the poorly written film is primarily the all-hypnotic, all-fresh visual atmosphere by the masters, the story succeeds in portraying an innocent childhood dream and solid family love in a more sincere manner than I’ve seen in a long time.
